September: Mango and Flame

Each month one picture is released with its text. September's is new to the collection: Mango and Flame, one of ten works added to the online edition this month.

A green mango stands on its end, and three flame-red peacock flowers rise from its shoulders on stems no thicker than a thread. It is the brightest picture in Tropical Garden, and one of the most balanced: all the weight is below, all the colour above.

A note on the print. The mango is the colour of deep water, and on the matte cotton of German Etching it keeps its speckled skin without any shine, so the red of the flowers is the only thing that seems to glow. At L (A2) the long stamens are drawn as finely as they are in the flower itself. We would choose L or XL for this one, to give the flame room.
