A dark green spire rises out of a broad, sand-coloured form, and where the two meet, a ring of small white flowers has been set.

The spire is severe; the base is heavy and quiet. Left to themselves they would have nothing to say to each other. The flowers are what make the join — a thin line of brightness laid exactly where the change happens, so that the eye can cross from one to the other without falling.

Joins are usually hidden. This one has been decorated instead.
