Story

Example text written by the studio, for the artist's review.

Nine papayas, still green, crowd the top of a plain white column as if they had climbed there together. Above them, on a thin stem, a few leaves open like a small flag. Nothing in the frame explains how the fruit is held; it simply is.

What reads at first as abundance settles, on a longer look, into something closer to company. Each fruit presses lightly against the next. None is the largest by much; none is hidden. The column beneath them carries the whole weight without comment, the way a table carries a family.

Ripeness is not yet here. That, perhaps, is the point. The gathering comes first — the leaning in, the shared waiting — and the sweetness, if it arrives, arrives to all of them at once.
